Seville in July and August is a heat warning. The city regularly exceeds 40°C in summer, which makes sightseeing genuinely challenging and reduces most outdoor activity to the early morning and evening hours. September brings the temperature down and returns Seville to one of the most enjoyable cities in Spain to explore.

Weather

Early September in Seville can still reach 32 to 35°C during the hottest part of the day, but it's stepping down from summer's extremes. By late September it settles at 26 to 28°C, which is warm but manageable for walking the Barrio Santa Cruz, visiting the Alcazar, and sitting in the orange-tree shaded plazas. Evenings are noticeably cooler and the outdoor tapas culture of the city comes back to life. Pack light summer clothes and sun protection throughout the month.

Crowds and Prices

Seville's tourist season peaks in spring (Semana Santa and Feria de Abril) and continues at high levels through summer. September reduces this, particularly from mid-month. The Real Alcazar courtyard, the Catedral, and the Metropol Parasol viewpoint are all more comfortable to visit. The city's tapas bars in Triana, La Macarena, and the historic centre get their local crowd back as the foreign tourist ratio shifts. Hotel prices drop from summer rates.

What's On

September in Seville sees the beginning of the bullfighting season finale at the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza. The Bienal de Flamenco runs in alternating even-numbered years in September and October and is one of the world's most prestigious flamenco festivals. When it coincides with your visit, it's a genuine reason to time a trip. Check the year before booking, as the programme is substantial and requires planning around specific performances.

One Thing to Watch

The Alcazar booking situation in September still requires advance tickets. Even outside the absolute peak, the combined Alcazar and Catedral circuit is the most-visited thing in Seville and timed entry sells out. Book online before you arrive. First-morning slots give you the Alcazar gardens in reasonable quiet before the day-tripper coaches from Malaga and Cadiz add their numbers.
