Seville in February is one of the most straightforward recommendations in European winter travel. Temperatures are genuinely pleasant, the crowds are a fraction of the spring peak (April's Semana Santa and April Fair drive some of the highest prices and visitor numbers in Europe), and the city's tapas culture, flamenco scene, and Moorish architecture are fully accessible. Carnival in Seville is one of Spain's best celebrations. Come in February before the rest of Europe discovers how good the weather is.
Weather
February averages 8C to 16C with regular sunshine. Rain is possible, more so than in summer, but not dominant. A light jacket or mid-layer is needed for mornings and evenings. Afternoons can be warm enough to sit outside. By northern European standards, this is genuinely mild. Walking the Alcazar gardens and the Barrio Santa Cruz in February is comfortable and not in any way a winter hardship.
Crowds and Prices
Low season outside Carnival. The Alcazar and the Cathedral require advance booking but availability is good. The Metropol Parasol and the Plaza de Espana are accessible without waiting. Hotel prices in the historic centre are among the year's lowest. Carnival period sees a spike, but the base price point in February is very competitive.
What's On
The Seville Carnival (Carnaval) runs in February and is one of Spain's most acclaimed: costumed troupes (murgas and comparsas) perform satirical songs and street theatre throughout the city. It is genuinely local, very good-humoured, and a complete contrast to the more tourist-oriented summer events. The ten days around Carnival represent one of the best reasons to be in Seville at any time of year.
One Thing to Watch
Carnival weekend hotel prices in Seville spike significantly, and accommodation in the historic centre fills early. If you want to be in the city during Carnival, book well in advance. If you prefer quieter conditions, the week before and after Carnival offers the best weather at the lowest prices with no crowd pressure.
The Seville city guide covers the Alcazar, the tapas bars, and the full city.
