Seville in March is exceptional. The city is warm, the orange blossoms are beginning in late March, and if Easter falls in March, Semana Santa transforms the city into one of the most extraordinary spectacles in Europe. Even without Easter, Seville in March offers the Alcazar, the cathedral, the Triana neighbourhood, and the city's tapas culture without the crushing summer heat that makes July and August genuinely uncomfortable. March is one of Seville's strongest months.
Weather
March temperatures in Seville range from 9°C at night to 17°C to 19°C during the day, with late March pushing to 20°C or above on good days. Sunshine is frequent and the light is excellent. Rain is possible but Seville is one of Europe's driest and sunniest cities even in spring. A light jacket for evenings is the main concession to the season. By the end of March, the city is warm enough to eat outside comfortably and the streets are full of life from mid-morning.
Crowds and Prices
Seville in March is shoulder season that can shift sharply depending on Easter. Before Easter, the city is manageable: the Real Alcazar and the Cathedral (including the Giralda tower) are busy but not at July levels. If Semana Santa falls in late March, the city is transformed and absolutely packed: hotels are fully booked months ahead and prices spike dramatically. Outside of Easter, March prices are well below summer rates.
What's On
Semana Santa (Holy Week) is Seville's most important event, featuring nightly processions of penitents and floats (pasos) through the city's streets from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. If Easter falls in late March, this takes place during your visit. The atmosphere is unlike anything else in Europe: solemn, elaborate, and deeply local. Book accommodation for Semana Santa at least six months in advance. The Feria de Abril (Spring Fair) is an April event and does not overlap with March.
One Thing to Watch
The Real Alcazar requires advance timed entry booking year-round. In March outside of Easter, tickets are available within a week or two of your visit, but do not assume walk-up entry is possible. Book before you arrive. During Semana Santa, streets around the procession routes are closed for hours at a time: factor this into how you plan to move around the city in that week.
Our Seville travel guide covers the Alcazar, the cathedral, Triana, the tapas bars, and the Semana Santa logistics for one of Europe's most rewarding cities.
