April in Seville is the most spectacular month in one of Europe's most spectacular cities. Semana Santa (Holy Week) produces some of the most extraordinary street processions anywhere in the world. Feria de Abril (the April Fair) follows immediately after, filling a dedicated fairground with flamenco, horses, and celebration. The weather is perfect. The city is also extremely busy and accommodation books up months in advance. If you want Seville in April, plan early.
Weather
April in Seville sees daytime temperatures of 20C to 25C. Sunshine is almost guaranteed. The city is one of Europe's hottest, and April is the ideal window before the brutal summer heat (July and August regularly exceed 40C). Evenings are warm and pleasant for outdoor dining. Pack light summer-weight clothing and sunscreen.
Crowds and Prices
This is the most important section for Seville in April. Semana Santa and Feria de Abril together make April the most expensive and most crowded month of the Seville year. Hotels in the Santa Cruz and Triana neighbourhoods book out six months or more in advance for the Semana Santa and Feria weeks. Prices double or triple compared to other months. If you want this experience, begin planning in autumn for the following April.
What's On
Semana Santa: the Holy Week processions (typically the week before Easter) are extraordinary. Brotherhoods in traditional robes carry enormous floats (pasos) bearing religious sculpture through the streets, accompanied by drums and brass bands. The atmosphere is emotional, dense, and unlike anything else. Feria de Abril: the April Fair begins two weeks after Easter Sunday. It is a celebration of Sevillian culture: horses, flamenco dresses, the casetas (tents), sherry, and dancing. Many casetas are private (belonging to clubs or families), but public ones are accessible and the atmosphere across the whole fairground is memorable.
One Thing to Watch
If you are visiting Seville in April but outside the Semana Santa and Feria weeks, the city is excellent but considerably quieter. This is the hidden option: warm weather, manageable crowds, much better accommodation prices. If you want Semana Santa or Feria, plan far ahead and budget for significant price increases.
