Most visitors arrive in Seville expecting sangria and sweet sherry. Most Sevillanos drink neither. Here's what actually goes in the glasses at the bars locals use — and how to order without looking like you wandered off a cruise ship.

Cruzcampo: Seville's Local Beer

Cruzcampo is Seville. It was founded in the city in 1904, and while the brand is now part of the Heineken group, the Seville brewery still produces the local supply, and Sevillanos maintain a fierce loyalty to it.

What it tastes like

Crisp, light, slightly hoppy — a clean southern lager built for heat. It's not complex craft beer; it's the beer you want at 38°C while standing at a bar eating jamón croquetas.

How to order

  • Caña: A small draft (around 200ml). The standard order at a tapas bar. Stays cold longer because you drink it faster.
  • Tubo: A tall, narrow glass (around 300–330ml). Same beer, slightly warmer by the time you finish it.
  • Botellín: A small bottle (around 200ml). Ordered when you want to pour your own — typically at outdoor terraces.

Ask for "una caña" and you'll get a Cruzcampo in most Seville bars. They'll know what you mean.

Pairing

Cruzcampo works with almost everything on a Seville tapas menu — jamón, espinacas con garbanzos, pringá, fried fish. It's not fighting for attention; it's clearing the palate between bites.
