Valencia in June is one of the best-value warm-weather city breaks in Europe. The beaches are excellent, the paella is world-class (Valencia invented it), and the crowds are a fraction of what you'd find in Barcelona at the same time of year. June is when Valencia starts to reward visitors who chose it over the more obvious Spanish alternatives.
Weather
Expect highs of 26-30°C through June, with reliable sunshine and the Mediterranean keeping things comfortable. The Playa de la Malvarrosa and Playa de las Arenas are walkable from the old town and properly swimmable by June. Evenings are warm and ideal for the long, late Spanish dinner culture. Pack light summer clothes and sun cream.
Crowds and Prices
Valencia sees far fewer tourists than Barcelona or Madrid for equivalent sights and a comparable city experience. June brings visitor numbers but the city is large enough and its tourism infrastructure spread out enough that it doesn't feel overwhelmed. Accommodation is very affordable. The Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciencies (City of Arts and Sciences) is the main modern landmark and worth visiting.
What's On
Valencia's Feria de Julio runs from late June into July and brings fireworks, outdoor concerts, and the Battle of the Flowers (a parade where floats and participants throw flowers at the crowd). It's a genuinely enjoyable local event, not primarily aimed at tourists. The city also has an excellent food market culture: the Mercado Central is one of the best in Spain and open through June.
One Thing to Watch
Paella in Valencia is a serious matter. The dish originated here and a Valencian will have opinions about what constitutes a proper one. Traditional Valencian paella has chicken, rabbit, beans, and rosemary: no seafood. Seafood paella exists but is a separate dish. The beachfront restaurants serve decent paella, but the better versions are found in restaurants slightly inland. Ask locals for recommendations rather than defaulting to the seafront strip.
