Galway in November: What to Expect

Galway in November is the city at its most honest. The summer festival crowds are long gone, the streets belong to the locals again, and the west of Ireland weather does exactly what it always threatens to do. It's not always comfortable, but it's always characterful.

Expect temperatures between 5°C and 10°C, with frequent rain driven in from the Atlantic. November on Ireland's west coast is genuinely wet, and Galway faces directly into the prevailing weather systems. Wind is a constant. Pack a proper waterproof jacket, warm layers, and footwear that handles puddles. On the flip side, November also delivers some remarkable Atlantic light between storms: the sky over Galway Bay in a brief clearing can stop you in your tracks.

Crowds and Prices

Very quiet. Galway loses its summer tourist layer entirely in November, which for a city this small and intimate means the pubs, restaurants, and streets feel genuinely local. Accommodation prices are low. B&Bs and guesthouses in the Latin Quarter area drop to off-season rates that represent excellent value.

What's On

Galway's pub and traditional music scene runs year-round regardless of weather or season. Sessions at Tigh Neachtain, Monroe's, and Taaffes continue through November with a local crowd. The Galway Theatre Festival sometimes extends into November, and the city's art galleries and the Galway City Museum are reliably open through the winter.

The Connemara coast and the Aran Islands are both accessible from Galway in November, but ferry services to the islands reduce in frequency and can be cancelled in rough weather. Check conditions before committing to the crossing.
