The best time to visit Warsaw is May to June or September. The weather is pleasant, the Old Town and Royal Route are fully operational, and the city's café culture and parks are at their most enjoyable. Warsaw is a year-round destination with a strong cultural offer, but those windows give you the outdoor experience that makes the city feel most alive.

Month-by-Month Breakdown

  • January to February: Cold (around -3 to 2C) and often snowy. Warsaw under snow has genuine atmosphere, particularly in the Old Town. The museums (Polin, Warsaw Rising Museum, Royal Castle) are uncrowded. Cheap accommodation.
  • March to April: Improving conditions. Temperatures around 7-13C. Spring arrives in Lazienki Park from April. A reasonable quieter window.
  • May: Excellent. Around 16-20C, the parks are at their best, and the city is lively without the summer visitor numbers. Constitution Day (3 May) adds a festive element. One of the best single months.
  • June: Warm (22-25C) and long evenings. The Vistula riverside comes alive with bars and activity. A strong choice.
  • July to August: Warm (25-28C). Warsaw's summer is pleasant compared to southern European cities. The city is busy with visitors but never overwhelmingly crowded. The Vistula beaches are active.
  • September: One of the best months. Temperatures around 18-22C, the summer visitors have gone, and the city has a settled autumn energy. Good value.
  • October: Autumnal and quieter. Temperatures around 11-15C. Lazienki Park in autumn colour is worth the visit alone.
  • November to December: Cold and building toward Christmas. The Old Town Christmas Market is modest but charming. Cold (around 0-5C) but the city operates fully.

Peak Season

Summer (June to August) is Warsaw's busiest tourist period. The Old Town and the Royal Castle see their highest visitor numbers. Warsaw does not reach the saturation levels of Prague or Krakow but book ahead for accommodation in peak summer.

Shoulder Season

May and September are the recommended windows. May is particularly strong: the parks, the outdoor culture, and the full museum offer all align with the best weather of the year. Warsaw in May is an underrated European city break that has not yet had its full due.

What to Avoid

February: cold, dark, and with no particular seasonal event to justify the conditions. January can work on a budget but is similarly austere. If winter is the plan, the Christmas market in December or the atmospheric snow of January are both better reasons than mid-February.
