Warsaw in November is cold, grey, and bleak in a way that is historically appropriate for a city that has been through what Warsaw has been through. It is also extremely cheap, genuinely fascinating, and operating at a full cultural pace despite the weather. If you can embrace the dark, Warsaw in November is rewarding.

Weather

Temperatures range from 0°C to 5°C through November, with frequent overcast skies, rain, and cold wind. By late November, frost is common and early snowfall is possible. Daylight runs from about 7:30am to 3:30pm. This is proper winter conditions. Pack a heavy coat, thermal layers, hat, gloves, and waterproof boots. Warsaw is a walking city and you will be outside regardless of the weather.

Crowds and Prices

Very low season. Warsaw is not on most European short-break itineraries in the way Prague or Budapest are, and in November the city is operating entirely for locals. Hotels in the old town reconstruction and in the Srodmiescie district are among the cheapest in any European capital. Ryanair and Wizz Air fares from UK airports are frequently available for remarkably low prices.

What's On

Poland's National Independence Day falls on November 11, a significant public holiday with official ceremonies and, in recent years, large nationalist marches in Warsaw that draw significant crowds and require some route planning if you're in the city centre that day. Check the news for context before you travel if your dates align.

The Warsaw Museum, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews (POLIN), and the Warsaw Rising Museum are all extraordinary. The Rising Museum in particular is one of the finest historical museums in Europe and is worth the trip to Warsaw in any season.

One Thing to Watch

The November 11 Independence Day march in Warsaw has, in recent years, attracted significant controversy due to the involvement of far-right groups. The march is large and the surrounding streets can be disrupted. If your visit falls on or around November 11, be aware of the planned routes and either plan around them or simply watch events with appropriate context in mind.
