Naples in November is the city stripped back to its essential self: loud, intense, deeply local, and almost entirely without the tourist overlay that builds through spring and summer. The Amalfi Coast is winding down, Pompeii is quiet, and Naples is just being Naples, which is still one of the most vivid cities in Italy.
Weather
Daytime temperatures sit between 12°C and 16°C through November, with some rain and overcast periods. Naples is considerably milder than Northern and Central Italy in November, and on clear days the light over the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius is extraordinary. Evenings are cool, around 9°C to 11°C. A warm jacket handles most situations.
Crowds and Prices
Very low season. The tourist infrastructure at Pompeii and Herculaneum, which can feel overwhelming in summer, is significantly more manageable. Hotels in the Spaccanapoli area and along the seafront drop to off-season prices. The city's famous pizza restaurants, including Di Matteo and Gino Sorbillo on Via Tribunali, still have queues, because Neapolitans queue for good pizza regardless of the season, but the wait is shorter.
What's On
All Saints' Day on November 1 is a significant public holiday in Naples, with the city observing the occasion in a way that's more genuinely felt than in more tourist-oriented Italian cities. The historic catacombs of San Gennaro and Fontanelle cemetery are particularly evocative to visit around this time.
The opera season at the Teatro di San Carlo, one of Europe's oldest and finest opera houses, runs through November with a strong programme. Tickets are accessible and far less competitive than at La Scala in Milan.
One Thing to Watch
Some ferry services to the islands (Capri, Ischia, Procida) run on reduced winter schedules in November. Day trips are still possible from Molo Beverello, but check the current timetable in advance rather than assuming summer-season frequency. Capri in November is extremely quiet, with many hotels and restaurants closed. Factor this in if island day trips are on your agenda.
