May is a solid month to visit Las Vegas. The brutal desert summer heat hasn't fully arrived, the city is very much in operation, and Memorial Day weekend aside, prices are more manageable than the peak months. If you're planning a Vegas trip and have flexibility on timing, May is worth serious consideration.
Weather
Temperatures in May range from 20°C to 32°C. Hot, dry, and sunny are the dominant conditions. It's warm enough to enjoy the pool scene, which is a significant part of the Las Vegas experience, without the 40°C+ heat of July and August that makes outdoor time genuinely difficult. Evenings are pleasant. Light summer clothes are all you need, but sunscreen is non-negotiable.
Crowds and Prices
Las Vegas is busy year-round but May sits in a generally good spot. Midweek stays are notably cheaper than weekends, as always in Vegas. Memorial Day weekend at the end of May is one of the busiest and most expensive weekends of the year. Prices spike sharply for the long weekend. If your dates land on Memorial Day weekend, book accommodation months ahead or expect to pay significantly more than the surrounding weeks.
What's On
Las Vegas hosts major boxing matches, UFC events, and concerts year-round, and May is no exception. Check the schedule for the major venues, the T-Mobile Arena, Allegiant Stadium, and the Sphere before you travel. Events drive up hotel prices and fill the Strip quickly.
The pool party season at major resort hotels is fully underway by May. Marquee Dayclub at the Cosmopolitan, Wet Republic at MGM Grand, and others are running their weekend programmes. If this is part of your plan, check the schedule and book in advance.
One Thing to Watch
Memorial Day weekend transforms Las Vegas. Hotel prices can triple, the Strip becomes exceptionally crowded, and getting a restaurant reservation without planning months ahead becomes difficult. If you're specifically drawn to the party atmosphere of a major holiday weekend, embrace it and book early. If you want a more manageable Vegas experience, aim for the first two or three weeks of May instead.
