Las Vegas in January is genuinely one of the better times to visit. The summer heat is gone, hotel rates are lower outside of major convention weeks, and the Strip and casinos are exactly as operational as they are in July. Las Vegas doesn't have an off season in any meaningful sense, but January is one of its more comfortable and affordable months.

Weather

Daytime temperatures average 12°C to 15°C, with cold nights dropping to 2°C or 3°C. It can feel surprisingly cold, especially outdoors at night. Desert conditions mean the temperature swings are significant: a hoodie or light jacket for evenings is necessary even if the afternoon feels mild. Rain is rare. Snow in the city itself is extremely uncommon.

Crowds and Prices

January is quieter than the holiday period that precedes it, but Las Vegas is never truly empty. CES (Consumer Electronics Show) typically takes over the city in the first two weeks of January, filling hotels and driving prices up significantly. Outside of CES week, January rates are generally strong. Check CES dates and either book well ahead or avoid those specific days.

What's On

CES is the headline event, and even if you're not attending it draws tens of thousands of people into the city. Beyond that, January is standard Las Vegas: shows, residencies, sports betting, and the full casino experience. The Grand Canyon and Red Rock Canyon day trips from the city are excellent in cooler weather.

One Thing to Watch

CES can double or triple hotel prices and make the Strip unusually crowded in early January. If you're not going for CES, either avoid those dates or book very early and accept premium pricing.
