Las Vegas in March is a genuine sweet spot. The weather is excellent by any standard, the city is busy but not at its summer peak, and there are major events that make it a particularly good time to visit. March Madness (the NCAA basketball tournament) turns every sportsbook and sports bar in the city into a spectacle. If you want Las Vegas at its most energetic without the summer heat, March delivers.

Weather

March temperatures in Las Vegas range from 10°C at night to 20°C to 22°C during the day. It is warm and almost entirely dry. Sunshine is the default. Light layers are enough during the day, and a jacket is useful for evenings, particularly early March when nights are cooler. The desert spring is legitimately pleasant: comfortable for walking the Strip without the 40°C heat that defines summer. This is one of the best weather months of the year.

Crowds and Prices

Las Vegas in March is busier than January and February but not as full as summer or New Year. March Madness significantly increases occupancy rates in mid-March, and prices on major sportsbook weekends spike accordingly. St Patrick's Day (17 March) also brings a surge to the Irish bars on the Strip and Fremont Street. Outside of those specific events, March is shoulder season with competitive hotel prices, particularly mid-week on the Strip.

What's On

March Madness is the defining March event: the sportsbooks at major casinos like the Westgate, MGM Grand, and the Wynn fill up for the opening rounds and become one of the most entertaining free-admission experiences in the city. The National Finals Rodeo is a December event, but spring brings various conventions to the Las Vegas Convention Center which affect hotel availability and pricing. Check what is scheduled during your dates.

One Thing to Watch

Convention weeks in March can push hotel prices significantly higher than baseline. Las Vegas hotel pricing is dynamic and event-driven: a room that costs $80 mid-week can cost $300 on a big convention weekend. Use the hotel calendars on the Las Vegas Convention Center website to cross-reference your dates before booking. Flexibility by even two or three days can save a meaningful amount.
