The best time to visit Valencia is April to June or September to October. The weather is warm and comfortable, the beaches are clean and uncrowded compared to summer, and the city's paella culture and cycling infrastructure are fully operational without the July and August heat. March is also exceptional if you visit for Las Fallas, one of Spain's most extraordinary festivals.

Month-by-Month Breakdown

  • January to February: Mild (around 13-16C) and quieter. Valencia's winter is genuine but not harsh. The Mercado Central and the old town are at their most local-facing. Good value accommodation.
  • March: Las Fallas (15-19 March) is Valencia's festival of giant papier-mache sculptures, fireworks, and daily explosions (mascletà). The city fills completely for the festival week. Accommodation books out months ahead. One of Europe's most visceral cultural events, absolutely worth planning a trip around.
  • April: Post-Fallas and pleasant. Temperatures around 17-20C. Easter can add a brief crowd spike but overall a strong spring window.
  • May to June: Excellent. Around 22-27C, long evenings, the City of Arts and Sciences and the Turia Gardens are at their most enjoyable. The beaches at Malvarrosa are warm but not yet at peak summer capacity.
  • July to August: Hot (32-36C) and busy. The city slows in the afternoon heat, the beaches are crowded, and accommodation prices are at their highest. Valencia handles summer better than inland Spanish cities but the heat is still significant.
  • September: A strong choice. Temperatures ease toward 27-29C from peak August heat, the beaches are still warm, and the city feels relaxed. The September Feria (late September) adds a local festival dimension.
  • October: One of the best months. Around 22-25C, quiet beaches, and the city feels genuinely its own rather than a tourist destination. Good value.
  • November to December: Cooling toward 14-17C. The city carries on but the outdoor culture reduces. Quieter and cheaper.

Peak Season

Las Fallas week in March and July to August are the two peaks. The festival peak is volume-driven and creates genuine scarcity for accommodation. The summer peak is weather-driven and prices accordingly.

Shoulder Season

April to May and September to October give you Valencia at its most enjoyable. The food scene, the cycling, the beaches, and the old town all function better in comfortable temperatures with manageable visitor numbers.

What to Avoid

Visiting during Las Fallas without accommodation booked: the city genuinely fills and arriving without a room booked is a problem, not an adventure. Also, the peak August afternoons at outdoor sites: 35C in the Turia Gardens or the City of Arts and Sciences requires shade planning.
