Miami in February is genuinely excellent. The hurricane season is long over, temperatures are warm without being oppressively hot, and the city's beach culture, Art Deco South Beach, and nightlife are all fully operational. February is high season in Miami and prices reflect it, but you are getting the city at its best. The Miami Open tennis, the Art Basel afterglow, and a general sense of the city running at full capacity make it one of the more appealing months on the calendar.
Weather
February averages 16C at night to 25C in the afternoon. Rain is possible but infrequent. Humidity is manageable compared to summer. Ocean water temperature is around 22C: swimmable for many visitors, though a wetsuit is not unusual. Sun is the default condition. This is the weather Miami promises and February actually delivers it.
Crowds and Prices
High season. South Beach hotels are at full price. Flights from Europe are expensive. The city is busy: Lincoln Road, Ocean Drive, and the Design District attract significant visitor numbers. Book accommodation and better restaurants well in advance. Valentine's Day intensifies the South Beach atmosphere further and prices spike for the weekend.
What's On
The Miami Open tennis major (previously the Sony Open) typically runs in late March, but February sees the city hosting various sports, music, and arts events. Miami Carnival runs in February with street events and parades. Coconut Grove Arts Festival, one of the largest arts festivals in the US, typically falls in February. The city's nightlife and dining scene is operating at full capacity.
One Thing to Watch
South Beach parking is expensive and space is limited. If you are staying on or near Ocean Drive, factor in the cost of parking from the start or plan not to drive. Uber and rideshare are well serviced, and Miami Beach is walkable along the beach front. Renting a car is useful for venturing to areas like Wynwood and Little Havana, but it is not necessary for a South Beach-focused trip.
Miami rewards planning: the city is spread out and the best experiences require knowing which neighbourhoods to prioritise.
