Miami in March is one of the city's best months. The weather is excellent, the heat is manageable, and major events like Art Basel's American edition and Ultra Music Festival bring a specific energy to the city. Spring break season starts building in March, which means the city is lively but not yet at the extreme summer heat. For a first visit or a return trip, March is when Miami works best.
Weather
March temperatures in Miami range from 20°C at night to 27°C to 28°C during the day. Sunshine is dominant, humidity is noticeably lower than July and August, and afternoon showers are rare compared to the summer wet season. Light summer clothing is all you need. The beaches are at their best: warm enough to swim, comfortable for long walks on the sand, and uncrowded enough to find your space on South Beach without the July sardine experience.
Crowds and Prices
March brings two competing dynamics in Miami. Spring break (primarily March and early April) increases visitor numbers significantly, particularly in South Beach and the areas around Ocean Drive. At the same time, hotel prices in some areas rise sharply around major events. Ultra Music Festival and Calle Ocho Festival (if falling in March) both drive demand. Check exactly what is happening during your specific dates: the weeks between major events are genuinely better value.
What's On
Ultra Music Festival typically runs in late March at Bayfront Park and is one of the world's major electronic music events, drawing large international crowds. The Calle Ocho Music Festival in Little Havana is one of the world's largest street festivals and typically runs in mid-March. Art Wynwood (contemporary art fair) usually runs in February, feeding into the cultural calendar. The Miami Open tennis tournament (an ATP and WTA Masters event) runs in late March and is excellent value to attend.
One Thing to Watch
Ultra Music Festival weekend drives hotel prices in Miami Beach and Brickell to peak-summer rates or above. If electronic music is not your plan, shift your dates to avoid that specific weekend. Conversely, if you want to attend, book accommodation four to six months in advance. The Miami Open tennis is a better-value event to plan around, with good day tickets available and a more relaxed atmosphere.
