Miami in January is peak season, and with good reason. January is one of the most reliably good months weather-wise in South Florida. It's warm, dry, and the city is in full swing. If you're visiting Miami, January is one of the top months to do it.
Weather
Daytime temperatures average 24°C to 26°C, with cool evenings around 15°C to 17°C. January is in the dry season with very little rain. Humidity is lower than summer. The beach is fully viable and the water is warm enough for swimming at around 22°C. It's as close to perfect beach weather as Miami gets without the summer heat and rain.
Crowds and Prices
January is high season. Miami Beach, South Beach, and the Art Deco district are busy with visitors. Hotel prices on South Beach and in Coconut Grove are higher than shoulder months. Art Basel in December brings some of that energy into January. Book accommodation well in advance and expect summer-level pricing.
What's On
The Art Deco Weekend festival typically takes place in mid-January on South Beach, celebrating the neighbourhood's architectural heritage with tours, music, and outdoor events. The Calle Ocho area and Wynwood are both active year-round, with events in January adding to the cultural calendar.
One Thing to Watch
January is also when snowbirds and winter escapes from the northeast US converge on Miami, filling hotels and driving up demand. If your dates overlap with any major events or holidays, book well ahead.
Our Miami guide covers South Beach, the neighbourhoods, and how to plan a visit across the city's distinct areas.
