June is one of the best months to visit Paris. The weather is warm and reliable, the city is lively without the August heat and emptiness (when many Parisians leave), and the gardens and outdoor terraces are at their peak. Paris works particularly well in June.

Weather

Temperatures reach 22-26°C through June, with good sunshine and occasional showers that pass quickly. The Luxembourg Gardens, the Tuileries, and the parks along the Seine are excellent in this kind of weather. Days are long, with light until around 10pm. Pack a light layer for evenings, which can be cooler near the river.

Crowds and Prices

Paris is one of the most visited cities in the world and June is high season. The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and Notre-Dame (post-reopening) are all very busy. Book timed entry for the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower summit in advance: the queues without tickets are severe. Prices for accommodation are high. The Marais, Montmartre, and Saint-Germain are the most tourist-heavy areas, but Paris is large enough that quieter neighbourhoods are always a short metro ride away.

What's On

The French Open (Roland Garros) runs from late May into early June and is one of the world's great sporting events. Fete de la Musique (21 June) transforms Paris into a city of free outdoor concerts with stages in every neighbourhood. Paris Pride typically runs in late June. The city's summer programme of outdoor cinema, concerts at the Philharmonie, and events in the Bois de Boulogne and Bois de Vincennes is in full swing.

One Thing to Watch

Pickpockets operate heavily in tourist areas in June and summer generally. The Eiffel Tower area, Sacre-Coeur, and the metro are the highest-risk spots. Use a cross-body bag, keep phones off the table at cafes, and be aware of groups of children or young people who may be working in teams. This is Paris reality rather than scaremongering: most visitors are fine, but complacency is the thing that gets people.
