Milan in June: What to Expect

June works for Milan, but you need to understand the city's rhythms. Many Milanese leave for the lakes and coast from late June, which means the city gets quieter in some ways and emptier in others. The heat is real, but the Duomo, the Pinacoteca di Brera, and the Last Supper all need booking whenever you go. June is fine for that.

Weather

Expect highs of 27-30°C through June, with humidity from the Po Valley making the heat feel heavier than dry Alpine destinations. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible. The city is largely flat and navigable by metro and tram, which helps. Pack light clothes, comfortable shoes for the marble streets around the Duomo, and sun cream for outdoor time in the piazzas.

Crowds and Prices

Milan is primarily a business city and the fashion week crowds (April and September) are absent in June. Tourist numbers at the main sites are steady but manageable. The Last Supper (Leonardo's Cenacolo) requires advance booking at any time of year: slots go months ahead. Book immediately when your dates are confirmed. Accommodation prices are moderate by major European city standards.

What's On

Milan Fashion Week is not in June. The city is relatively quiet on major events compared to spring and autumn. What you get in June is a city of very good restaurants, world-class art, and excellent day trip access to Lake Como and Lake Maggiore. Both lakes are excellent in June and under two hours from Milan by train or car.

One Thing to Watch

The Last Supper is genuinely non-negotiable to book in advance. Fifteen people are admitted at a time for fifteen-minute slots, and it books up months ahead in summer. Do not arrive in Milan expecting to walk in. Book the moment your trip is confirmed. If you miss out on the official tickets, some licensed tour operators include it on tours that hold allocations.
