June is one of the best months to visit Lisbon. The Santos festas in mid-June turn the Alfama into an outdoor party that lasts all night, the weather is excellent, and you're just ahead of the July and August crowds that push prices into difficult territory. If you can only go once, June is a strong argument for itself.
Weather
Expect highs of 26-30°C through June, with consistent sunshine and very little rain. Atlantic breezes keep the city from feeling oppressive. Evenings are warm and ideal for sitting on a miradouro with a glass of Vinho Verde watching the light fade over the Tagus. Pack light summer clothes and comfortable shoes for Lisbon's hills.
Crowds and Prices
Lisbon has grown enormously as a destination and June brings solid visitor numbers. Belem, the Alfama tram routes, and the Jeronimos Monastery are all busy. Prices are rising but haven't hit August peak. Book accommodation a few weeks ahead. The city's neighbourhoods beyond the main tourist corridor, including Mouraria, Campo de Ourique, and Alcantara, are all genuinely worth exploring and much quieter.
What's On
The Festas de Lisboa run throughout June, culminating in the Santos Populares on the night of 12-13 June (St Anthony's Night). This is Lisbon's biggest street party: the Alfama fills with grilled sardines, music, streamers, and a few hundred thousand people. It's one of the best single nights you can spend in any European city. Book accommodation for the 12th-13th well in advance.
One Thing to Watch
Tram 28, the famous historic tram through the Alfama, is regularly overcrowded and a pickpocket hotspot in summer. The tram itself is lovely and worth the ride, but hold your bag in front of you and keep valuables in a secure inside pocket. Alternatively, walk the Alfama on foot: you see more and lose nothing.
