Copenhagen in November is cold and dark, and the Danes lean into both with an enthusiasm that borders on philosophical. This is the city of hygge in its natural habitat: candlelit cafes, excellent pastries, and a general refusal to be miserable about the weather. It works.
Weather
Temperatures range from 2°C to 7°C through November, with frequent overcast skies and rain. Daylight is limited to around 8am to 4pm and shrinking. Wind off the harbour makes it feel sharper than the thermometer suggests. Dress in proper winter layers, waterproof boots, and accept that this is not sightseeing weather in the beach-and-terrace sense. It's indoor culture weather, and Copenhagen is very good at indoor culture.
Crowds and Prices
November represents genuine low season, which is notable because Copenhagen is never cheap. Flights and hotels cost less in November than at almost any other point in the year. Noma-tier restaurants that require months of forward planning in summer sometimes have November availability. The National Museum, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, and Designmuseum Denmark are unhurried and easy.
What's On
The Tivoli Gardens Christmas market opens in mid-November and runs through Christmas. It's one of the best in Europe: the illuminations, the mulled wine (glogg), and the general atmosphere are worth the entry fee. Tivoli in winter is a completely different experience from summer and arguably more charming.
The city's cafe culture and restaurant scene operate at full capacity. November is the month to eat well in Copenhagen, with hearty Nordic menus and seasonal ingredients at their peak.
One Thing to Watch
Copenhagen is expensive at any time of year and November doesn't change that fundamentally. Budget carefully. Accommodation, restaurants, and the occasional museum add up faster than in most European capitals. Plan your food priorities in advance: one splurge restaurant is worth it; three will break the budget.
