June is the best month to visit Tallinn. The medieval old town is beautifully lit in long Nordic evenings, the city celebrates Midsommar with genuine enthusiasm, and June sits just ahead of the peak summer tourist season. It's still affordable by Western European standards, which makes the overall value exceptional.

Weather

Temperatures reach 18-22°C through June, with very long days stretching to nearly 19 hours of daylight around the solstice. Evenings are warm enough to sit outside. Rain is possible but June is one of the drier months in Estonia. Pack layers for evenings and a light rain jacket. The old town is compact and all best explored on foot.

Crowds and Prices

Tallinn gets very busy in peak summer but June is slightly ahead of the worst of it. The old town is already popular, and weekend visitors from Helsinki (a short ferry crossing away) boost numbers. Accommodation is very affordable by Western European standards. The best restaurants in Tallinn are excellent and not expensive. Book dinner at top spots like Restaurant Leib or Restoran Noa in advance.

What's On

Jaanipa/Jaaniohtu (St John's Eve/Midsommar, 23 June) is Estonia's biggest celebration, equivalent to Christmas in social importance. In Tallinn, the celebrations happen in the old town and in parks around the city. It's one of the most authentic cultural events you can attend in the Baltic states. Plan to be here on the night of 23 June if at all possible.

One Thing to Watch

Tallinn's old town is a UNESCO site and genuinely one of the best-preserved medieval city centres in Europe. But it's small: you can see the main sights in half a day. Don't limit your visit to the old town. The Kalamaja district (wooden houses, hip cafes, locals-only feel), Telliskivi Creative City, and the Kadriorg Park and palace are all excellent and give you a better sense of what Tallinn actually is.

The ConciseTravel Tallinn guide covers the old town, Kalamaja, and how to plan around Midsommar for the best single night in Estonia.
