June is one of the best months to visit Krakow. Warm weather, a beautiful Old Town, and prices that remain significantly lower than comparable Western European cities. The city is busy but it wears tourism well, and there's enough cultural richness here to fill several days without feeling like you're ticking boxes.

Weather

Expect highs of 22-26°C through June, with sunshine and the occasional afternoon thunderstorm. Rain passes quickly and the Old Town looks spectacular when it dries. Pack light summer clothes and comfortable shoes for the cobblestones. Evening temperatures are warm enough to sit outside in the main square without a jacket.

Crowds and Prices

Krakow is a major European tourist destination and June brings solid visitor numbers. The Main Market Square (Rynek Glowny) is busy, Wawel Castle has queues, and Auschwitz-Birkenau requires advance booking regardless of season. But Krakow is affordable by any European standard: accommodation, food, and drinks cost a fraction of Paris or Amsterdam. The Kazimierz district (Jewish quarter) has excellent independent restaurants and bars that don't cater primarily to tourists.

What's On

The Krakow Film Festival is one of the best documentary festivals in Europe and runs in late May or early June. The Dragon Parade (Lajkonik parade) is a traditional celebration usually in June, involving a costumed procession through the city from the Norbertine Convent to the Rynek. It's a peculiarly Krakow event and worth seeing if it falls during your visit.

One Thing to Watch

Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial, around 70km from Krakow, requires advance booking throughout the year and especially in summer. Visits are timed entry and the most in-demand slots fill up weeks ahead. Book directly on the official Auschwitz memorial website as soon as your dates are confirmed. It's a sobering, important visit that needs proper time: allow a full day.
