Crowds and Prices

July is peak season and hotel prices reflect that. The Atomium and Mini-Europe site gets busy with families from mid-July when school holidays kick in across Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. Bastille Day on 14 July doesn't have the same official weight in Brussels as in Paris, but the French-speaking community in the city marks it with parties, outdoor screenings, and general summer goodwill. Belgian National Day falls on 21 July, which is the bigger occasion locally: military parades, public events, and everything officially closed. Brussels Summer Festival brings free and ticketed concerts to the Grand Place and city parks throughout July.

Belgian National Day on 21 July catches visitors off-guard. The city centre effectively shuts down for the official celebrations. The Grand Place fills with locals and the metro gets chaotic. It's a great day to experience if you're there, but if you've planned a museum day or a day-trip to Bruges, rethink the logistics. Most major museums close or run reduced hours.
