Liverpool attracts football visitors, music tourists, and cultural visitors year-round. April is not peak tourism season but the city is active. The Grand National horse racing festival at Aintree Racecourse is held in early April (the exact dates vary slightly year to year). It is one of the biggest events in the British sporting calendar and one of the busiest times of year in Liverpool, particularly the Friday and Saturday of Grand National weekend. International Beatleweek is in August, but the Beatles Story and Mathew Street draw visitors in April too.

One Thing to Watch

Grand National weekend is the most significant crowd and price event in Liverpool's April calendar. If you are visiting that specific weekend, book accommodation months in advance and expect the city centre to be very busy. If you are not coming for the National, book around it: the preceding and following weeks are noticeably calmer and better value.
