June is a very good time to visit Lake Garda. The water is warm enough for swimming, the villages are in full summer mode, and you're ahead of the July and August peak when the lake road grinds to a halt. It's one of the most straightforwardly enjoyable months to be here.

Weather

Temperatures reach 24-28°C around the lake in June, with the southern end running slightly warmer than the north. The lake itself reaches around 22-24°C by late June, which is very swimmable. The northern part of the lake, around Riva del Garda, channels mountain breezes that make it the centre of wind and kite sports in summer. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible, rolling in from the Alps, but usually clear quickly.

Crowds and Prices

Lake Garda is Italy's largest lake and one of the country's most popular summer destinations. June is busy, particularly on weekends when visitors arrive from Verona, Milan, and beyond. The main ferry routes between Peschiera, Sirmione, Garda town, and Riva fill up. Sirmione, built on a narrow peninsula, is particularly congested: visit on a weekday or first thing in the morning for the Scaligero Castle. Prices are rising by June but below July and August peaks.

What's On

The lake doesn't have a single June blockbuster, but Gardaland (the major theme park at the southern end) and the various water parks are in full operation. Wine and food festivals run across the Garda DOC wine country to the east. The villages around the lake are worth exploring by ferry rather than driving: parking is scarce and the ferry timetables work well.

One Thing to Watch

The road around the lake, particularly the western shore through Limone and Gargnano, is a single-carriageway mountain road with tunnels and summer traffic. It's beautiful and it's slow. Plan driving time generously, or skip driving entirely and use the ferries to move between villages. The ferries are the best way to see the lake anyway.
