April in Paris is genuinely what the postcards promise. The chestnuts are blooming along the boulevards, the cafe terraces are occupied, and the city looks magnificent in the particular light of French spring. It is also busy. The major sites require advance booking, prices are higher than winter, and it is not a secret that Paris in April is good. Come prepared and it rewards the effort.
Weather
April in Paris sees daytime temperatures of 13C to 17C, with cool evenings around 7C. Spring rain is frequent but usually brief: the classic quick shower followed by sunshine. A light waterproof and layers are the right call. The rain rarely ruins a day in Paris because the city's covered passages, museums, and cafes provide excellent shelter and are worth being in regardless.
Crowds and Prices
Paris is one of the world's most visited cities and April is peak season in spirit if not in absolute numbers. The Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Versailles, and the Eiffel Tower all require advance booking. Easter brings intense domestic French travel and international visitors. Hotel prices in central arrondissements are high in April. Book everything: accommodation, museum tickets, and any restaurant you care about.
What's On
Easter sees the Luxembourg Gardens and Tuileries host small events. April is Marathon de Paris month, typically in mid-April, and the city absorbs 60,000 runners and their supporters across one high-energy weekend. If the marathon route crosses your neighbourhood on race day, plan around it. The Cannes Film Festival begins in late May, but Paris media and cultural life runs its own parallel calendar in April.
One Thing to Watch
The Louvre and Musee d'Orsay have been implementing timed entry. Buy tickets online before you travel. For Versailles, book a specific date and time: turning up without a ticket means a very long queue or no entry. The queues at popular Paris sites in April can cost you several hours of your trip if you are unprepared.
