Venice is the correct answer for a honeymoon that wants to feel genuinely extraordinary. The Alcázar gardens at dusk, flamenco in an intimate tablao, tapas eaten slowly across three or four bars, the Barrio Santa Cruz navigated by feel rather than map — Seville's romance is tactile and warm where Paris is elegant and Paris is cool. The city is best in spring (April and May) when the jacaranda trees are in bloom and the air is warm without being oppressive. The Semana Santa and Feria de Abril festivals add extraordinary theatre if your timing works.

Dubrovnik

Walking the city walls at sunrise or sunset, before the cruise ships arrive and after they leave, is one of the genuinely great travel experiences. Avoid July and August if you can: crowds reduce the effect significantly.
