Dublin in February is wet and doesn't pretend otherwise, but the city's pub culture, literary history, and increasingly strong food scene make it worth the rain. The key advantage: fewer tourists than at any point from March onwards, which means the Guinness Storehouse is manageable, accommodation is affordable, and the city feels genuinely local. If the Six Nations is on, Dublin on a match weekend has an energy that most cities would struggle to manufacture.

Weather

February averages 4C to 9C, with persistent drizzle the most common condition. Proper rain is also possible. Snow is rare but not impossible. A waterproof coat is non-negotiable. The upside: Dublin's core sightseeing is entirely compatible with wet weather because most of it is in pubs, museums, and covered markets.

Crowds and Prices

This is low season. The Guinness Storehouse, Dublin Castle, and Trinity College are all accessible without summer queues. Flights from UK and European cities are cheap. Valentine's weekend brings a small price uptick in central hotels, but nothing that significantly alters the budget calculation. Six Nations match weekends push hotel prices up sharply if Ireland is playing at the Aviva Stadium: check the fixture schedule before booking.

What's On

The Six Nations championship runs from late January through March, and Dublin match days transform the city. Even without a ticket to the Aviva, the pub atmosphere across the city centre is extraordinary. Valentine's Day is well observed across Dublin's restaurants. The city's music and comedy scene runs year-round and is particularly good value in winter.

One Thing to Watch

If Ireland has a home match during your visit and you have not factored that into accommodation, you will pay significantly more than the February norm. Check the Six Nations schedule before booking. Equally, if you want the match atmosphere, book the match weekend deliberately and accept the higher prices.
