April in Berlin is classic northern European spring: promising but not reliable. On a good day the beer gardens open, the parks fill up, and the city feels properly alive. On a bad day it is grey, cold, and raining. You will likely get both. Berlin handles it better than most cities because it is good at being enjoyed regardless of the weather.

Weather

April temperatures range from 5C at night to 14C during the day. Warm spells can push toward 18C. Cold snaps can bring temperatures back to near freezing, especially early in the month. Pack layers that work across a range: a waterproof outer layer, a mid-weight fleece or jumper, and comfortable walking shoes. Do not come expecting Mediterranean spring.

Crowds and Prices

April is shoulder season in Berlin. The city is popular year-round but July and August are peak, so April feels noticeably calmer. Museum Island and the Berlin Wall Memorial are busy on weekends but manageable on weekdays. Hotel prices are mid-range. Easter weekend brings domestic German tourists into the city, causing a short-lived price and crowd spike around that long weekend.

What's On

Easter markets appear across the city in the week before Easter: Alexanderplatz, the Charlottenburg Palace courtyard, and Potsdamer Platz typically host them. They are smaller and less famous than the Christmas markets but genuinely enjoyable. Berlin's gallery and art scene runs year-round, and April is gallery-hopping weather. The outdoor club and bar scene starts to reopen in April if the weather permits.

One Thing to Watch

Berlin's weather variability in April catches people out. We have seen people arrive in t-shirts for a long weekend and spend it in the cold. Always pack a proper jacket. Also: public transport during Easter weekend runs on holiday schedules, which means reduced frequency on some lines. Check the BVG website before planning a tight itinerary over the Easter period.
