Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU), also known as Brnik Airport after the nearby village, sits 26 km north of Ljubljana. It is a compact, manageable airport — one terminal, short walking distances, no internal shuttle required. Getting to the city is straightforward once you understand the options.

Public Bus: Cheap but Infrequent

A public bus (Line 28, operated by Nomago) runs between the airport and Ljubljana bus station. Journey time: approximately 45 minutes. Fare: around €4.10. The service runs roughly every hour during the day but gaps can be longer in the evenings and on weekends. Check the current timetable before arrival at the Nomago website.

For budget-conscious solo travellers with time flexibility, this is the lowest-cost option. For anyone arriving on a specific flight, check whether the bus timing aligns before relying on it.

GoOpti Shuttle: The Practical Middle Ground

GoOpti is a shared minibus service that operates door-to-door transfers between the airport and Ljubljana accommodation. Prices vary dynamically based on demand and advance booking — typical cost is €7–12 per person if booked in advance. The service picks up multiple passengers and drops each at their address, which means the journey can take 60–90 minutes depending on the routing.

Book in advance on the GoOpti website or app. The earlier you book, the lower the price. This is the most common choice for budget-aware travellers who want the convenience of a door-to-door drop without taxi prices.

Taxi and Rideshare

Airport taxis to Ljubljana city centre cost approximately €25–35. The journey takes 25–30 minutes in normal traffic. Licensed taxis queue outside arrivals.

Bolt operates in Ljubljana and can be used from the airport — prices are similar to taxis or slightly lower. The app works at the airport.

For groups of two to four, a taxi or Bolt splitting the cost is often competitive with per-person shuttle pricing and significantly faster.

Car Rental

Car rental desks operate at the airport. Renting a car in Ljubljana makes sense if you're planning to visit the surrounding region — Lake Bled, the Soča Valley, the Karst region — and want flexibility. Within Ljubljana itself, a car is unnecessary and parking costs add up.

Our Take

GoOpti if you're travelling alone or as a pair and have booked in advance. Taxi or Bolt for groups, or anyone arriving late when the bus is infrequent. The public bus if cost is the priority and the timing works.
