Dublin in April: What to Expect

April in Dublin is genuinely enjoyable if you are realistic about the weather. The city is compact and walkable, the pub culture is excellent at any time of year, and April brings a bit of extra energy after the winter months. Just do not come expecting sunshine and warmth. You might get it. You might not.

Weather

April temperatures in Dublin range from 6C at night to 13C during the day. Rain is frequent. The good news is that Dublin rain tends to come in short bursts rather than sustained downpours, and the city is easy to duck into a pub or cafe. Pack a proper waterproof and comfortable walking shoes. The Irish spring light, when it appears, is soft and lovely.

Crowds and Prices

Dublin is a popular short-break destination year-round. April is busier than winter but not at the summer peak. Easter weekend is the main crowd-builder: domestic Irish travel peaks and international visitors arrive for the bank holiday. Central hotels charge higher rates over Easter. Book early if your dates overlap with it.

What's On

Easter in Ireland carries particular historical weight, given the 1916 Easter Rising. The National Museum of Ireland and the Garden of Remembrance hold commemorative events. The GAA season is underway in April, with county hurling and football matches taking place at Croke Park and around the country. Temple Bar has a regular programme of live music events throughout the month.

One Thing to Watch

Easter in Dublin is when the city gets genuinely packed. Accommodation prices jump sharply for the Thursday to Monday period. If you are not specifically coming for Easter, the weeks before and after are better value and calmer. Also note that some attractions and smaller restaurants close on Good Friday, which is a significant public holiday in Ireland.
