If you only go to Bangkok once, go in November. It's the start of the cool season, the monsoon rains have cleared, and the city is at its most liveable. This is when Bangkok stops being exhausting and starts being extraordinary.

Weather

Daytime temperatures sit around 28°C to 30°C with low humidity and almost no rain. Evenings cool to around 22°C, which by Bangkok standards is practically refreshing. The sky is clear, the air is tolerable, and outdoor sightseeing no longer requires a complete change of clothes halfway through the day. November is the month the locals actually go outside.

Crowds and Prices

Bangkok doesn't have low season in the same way European cities do. November is the start of high season, which means more visitors than the summer monsoon months but the trade-off is entirely worth it. Book accommodation a few weeks ahead for better rates before the December peak kicks in. Mid-November still offers some pricing headroom before the Christmas travel surge.

What's On

Loi Krathong, one of Thailand's most beautiful festivals, often falls in November (the exact date shifts with the lunar calendar). Locals release small decorated floats carrying candles onto the rivers and canals. In Bangkok, the Chao Phraya River and the canals of the old city come alive with lights. If your trip overlaps with it, this is worth adjusting your schedule around.

The Royal Ploughing Ceremony grounds and the Grand Palace area are cooler and far more comfortable to visit than at any other time of year. Chatuchak Weekend Market becomes genuinely enjoyable rather than a survival exercise.

One Thing to Watch

November is the start of the busy season, and popular river cruises, temple tours, and rooftop venues book up faster than you might expect. If there's something specific you want to do, particularly anything involving Ayutthaya day trips or the Chao Phraya dinner cruises, book ahead rather than assuming walk-up availability.
