Bangkok in March: What to Expect

March sits in a sweet spot for Bangkok. The city is hot and largely dry, the tourist high season is winding down from its February peak, and Songkran (the Thai New Year water festival) is still a month away in April. That combination means good availability, no rain-soaked afternoons, and a city that is busy but not overrun. If you can handle the heat, March delivers.

Weather

March is warm to hot in Bangkok. Temperatures run from around 26°C at night to 35°C or higher during the day. Humidity is building toward the wet season but is still manageable compared to May through October. Rain is rare but not impossible. Lightweight, breathable clothing is essential, and factor in that temples require covered shoulders and knees, so pack at least one appropriate outfit. The heat is real: plan outdoor sightseeing for early morning and late afternoon.

Crowds and Prices

The peak tourist season (November to February) has passed, so March sees fewer Western visitors than January or February. Prices for hotels and flights are slightly lower, and major sites like the Grand Palace and Wat Pho are busy but not at their most crowded. Chinese New Year falls in January or February, so that surge is also behind you. Mid-March is arguably Bangkok's low-key sweet spot before Songkran planning begins.

Bangkok's March calendar is relatively quiet compared to April. Some international sporting events and music festivals are scheduled at indoor venues. Street food scenes are in full swing, and the weekend markets at Chatuchak and Asiatique run as normal. One Thing to Watch

Heat exhaustion is a real risk for visitors not accustomed to Bangkok's March temperatures. Pacing outdoor itineraries around the midday heat is not optional, it is necessary.
