Bangkok in February: What to Expect

February is one of the best months to visit Bangkok. The wet season is firmly over, temperatures are warm rather than oppressively hot, and the city is running at full pace. If Chinese New Year falls in February, which it does most years, you get one of the most visually spectacular celebrations in the city, centred on Yaowarat, Bangkok's Chinatown. February is not a hidden secret: visitor numbers are solid, but compared to December and January it is fractionally quieter.

Weather

Expect 25C to 33C. Dry season means minimal rain and low humidity by Bangkok standards. Evenings are comfortable. This is as good as Bangkok weather gets for sightseeing. Wear light, breathable clothing. A light layer is useful only in heavily air-conditioned restaurants and malls.

Crowds and Prices

This is high season, so expect crowds at the major temples and tourist sites. Wat Pho, the Grand Palace, and Chatuchak Weekend Market will all be busy. Hotels are priced accordingly, particularly in Sukhumvit and riverside areas. Book early for mid-range and upper-range properties. Budget accommodation remains easy to find.

What's On

Chinese New Year is the February headline. Yaowarat Road transforms for several days with lanterns, lion dances, fire performers, and street food. If it falls during your visit, allocate an evening to it. Valentine's Day is enthusiastically observed across the city's restaurants. Makha Bucha, a significant Buddhist public holiday, sometimes falls in February and is marked by candlelit ceremonies at temples across the city, particularly Wat Saket.

One Thing to Watch

The Grand Palace dress code is enforced without exception. Covered shoulders and trousers or skirts below the knee are required. Sarongs are available to borrow at the gate but the queue to get them adds time. Dress appropriately from the start and save yourself thirty minutes.
